Managed IT and AI safety for mining

Managed IT services and AI safety for mining contractors and resources businesses

Heavy vehicles, light vehicles, people. Flagman sees all three.

Sharktech runs the IT, cybersecurity, data and AI safety systems behind Australian mining contractors, workshops and mining equipment, technology and services (METS) businesses. Your crews stay connected from camp to office, and Flagman watches the places where people and heavy equipment meet.

30 minutes. A written, costed plan before you commit to anything.

The short answer

What does managed IT look like for a mining contractor?

Liverpool, NSW South Yarra, VIC

Managed IT for a mining contractor keeps offices, workshops, camps and site crews connected and secure, covering devices, accounts, Microsoft 365, backups and cybersecurity for a predictable monthly fee. Sharktech adds Flagman AI safety for vehicle and pedestrian interaction and operator fatigue, plus Business Intelligence dashboards for fleet, maintenance and safety data.

Mining contractors carry the same safety and reporting expectations as the majors, with a fraction of the IT team. Crews rotate, devices travel between sites, and the principal contractor wants evidence, not assurances. Most contractors stitch this together from several suppliers. We run it as one system. Sharktech Global is an Australian AI tech lab, the Sharktech AI Tech Lab, with offices in Liverpool, New South Wales and South Yarra, Victoria. We design, build and run our own AI platforms, so the systems we deploy for you are ones we understand from the inside. We support mining businesses across Mackay, Gladstone, Mount Isa, Townsville, the Hunter, Wollongong, Perth and Brisbane.

Why it matters

Why is safety technology now a priority in mining?

Vehicle incidents are the leading cause of work-related deaths in Australia, and mine sites, workshops and haul roads concentrate heavy vehicles, light vehicles and people in one place.

188

Australian workers killed at work in 2024.

42%

Of worker fatalities involved vehicle incidents, the leading cause.

80%

Of fatalities occurred in six industries, including transport, postal and warehousing, and manufacturing.

146,700

Serious workers compensation claims in 2023 to 2024, each with at least one week off work.

One partner, four capabilities

What does Sharktech manage for mining and resources businesses?

Use one capability, or bring them together under one agreement. Everything connects, because we build software as well as support it.

Problem and solution

How is Sharktech technology making a difference in mining?

Real problems. Working technology. Numbers you can check.

The six problems we hear most from mining and resources businesses, what we do about each one, and the number you track to know it worked.

The problem

Heavy and light vehicles sharing space with people

Workshops, laydown yards and site entrances put pedestrians close to haul trucks, loaders and utes, where blind spots are large and near misses go unrecorded.

How Sharktech solves it
Flagman safety automation

Static and equipment-mounted AI cameras detect people in vehicle interaction zones, sound local alerts, notify supervisors and log every near miss with video, without relying on hardware fitted to every vehicle.

What you measure

Near misses per zone, repeat hotspots, alert response time

The problem

Operator fatigue on long rosters and night shifts

Twelve-hour shifts and fly-in fly-out rosters make fatigue a constant risk that is hard to see from outside the cabin.

How Sharktech solves it
Flagman safety automation

In-cabin behaviour analysis detects signs of drowsiness, distraction and phone use, alerts the operator in real time and logs events for supervisor review by shift and roster.

What you measure

Fatigue and distraction events by shift, trend across a roster

The problem

IT that falls apart between office, workshop and site

Laptops and tablets move between locations, accounts are shared, and nobody is sure which devices are patched or backed up.

How Sharktech solves it
Managed IT

Standard device builds, remote monitoring, secure Microsoft 365 with multi-factor authentication, and fast onboarding and offboarding for rotating crews and subcontractors.

What you measure

Devices under management, onboarding time, unmanaged devices removed

The problem

Prequalification and cybersecurity questions from principals

Tier one miners increasingly ask contractors for evidence of cybersecurity controls during prequalification and renewal.

How Sharktech solves it
Cybersecurity

We assess you against the Essential Eight, give you a written report and roadmap, and help you answer principal contractor questionnaires with evidence rather than guesswork.

What you measure

Questionnaires answered, Essential Eight maturity uplift

The problem

Maintenance, fleet and safety data in separate systems

Equipment hours, maintenance history, timesheets and incident reports live in different tools, so reporting to the client takes days.

How Sharktech solves it
Data and AI

We connect maintenance, fleet, timesheet and Flagman safety data into Business Intelligence dashboards for availability, utilisation, maintenance backlog and safety performance by site.

What you measure

Client report preparation time, equipment availability visibility

The problem

Remote sites where the internet cannot be trusted

Many safety tools depend on a cloud connection that remote sites simply do not have all the time.

How Sharktech solves it
Flagman safety automation

Flagman processes video on a rugged edge device rated IP69K and from minus 20 to plus 80 degrees Celsius, so detection and alerts keep working with no internet connection.

What you measure

Alert uptime during connectivity outages

Advanced safety automation

What is Sharktech Flagman, and how does it automate safety?

Your cameras already see the risk. Flagman acts on it in real time.

Flagman is an AI vision safety system that turns your cameras into a safety team that never looks away. It detects people, vehicles, PPE and hazards in real time, sounds local alerts, triggers machine and vehicle controls, and records every event for your work health and safety reporting. Sharktech is the exclusive Australian and New Zealand delivery partner for Perleybrook Labs, the developer of Flagman, and installs, integrates and supports every Flagman deployment locally.

FAQ FAQ

Managed IT for mining: frequently asked questions

How much do managed IT services cost for a mining contractor?

Sharktech managed IT starts from A$3,500 per month, scoped by users, devices and locations after an assessment. Flagman site safety, cybersecurity and Business Intelligence projects are quoted separately with a fixed scope, so you can start with the risk your principal is asking about.

Does Flagman work on remote sites without internet?

Yes, Flagman runs on an edge device on site, so detection and alerts work with no internet connection. The Flagman Neo device is fanless, rated IP69K and operates from minus 20 to plus 80 degrees Celsius. Events sync to the dashboard when a connection is available.

Can Flagman detect operator fatigue?

Yes, Flagman in-cabin behaviour analysis detects signs of drowsiness, distraction and phone use, alerts the operator immediately and logs events for supervisors. It supports your fatigue management plan and does not replace it.

Does Flagman replace our vehicle interaction controls?

No, Flagman adds detection, alerts and evidence on top of the controls required under your mine safety management system, such as segregation, traffic management and proximity rules. It helps you show those controls are working.

Can you help us answer a principal contractor's cybersecurity questions?

Yes, our security health check assesses you against the Essential Eight and produces a written report and roadmap. We use that evidence to help you answer prequalification questionnaires accurately.

How do we get started?

Book a 30-minute discovery call. We assess one workshop or site first, baseline the numbers, and give you a costed plan you can roll out across your other sites.
